Fall Monday Chess Class

We are excited to offer a Fall session of Intro to Chess on Mondays beginning September 15.  Chess has been proven to increase analytical and critical thinking skills. Chess makes creative problem solving into an enjoyable and stimulating game. Countless studies have shown that test scores, self - esteem, concentration and creative thinking increase after being exposed to chess.  Students will be broken into groups depending on their ability level and learn from experienced and professional chess coaches.

This is appropriate for students who are starting out with chess and may know basic piece movement. Total beginners welcome! The goal of the class is to teach the students basic strategy and have them playing a legal game of chess by the end of our 13 week session. Strategies such as checkmate patterns, basic tactics, opening principles and basic endgames will be discussed. 

Our intermediate advanced class will discuss chess strategy and go into checkmate patterns. We will learn tournament strategies, deadly sacrifices and endgame theory. This is perfect for students who have the foundations of chess and wish to compete in tournaments. 

The Fall Session of Monday Chess will meet once a week for 13 sessions on Monday afternoons from 3:00 – 4:00 PM. The dates for the program are: 9/8, 9/15, 9/22, 9/29, 10/6. 10/27, 11/3, 11/10, 11/17, 11/24. 12/1, 12/8, 12/15.  *If a class is canceled due to weather, we will hold a makeup class on a later date. The fee for the 13 classes is $520.

The intermediate class meets on Monday afternoons from 4:05 – 5:05 PM.

**Please note, no class on 10/13, 10/20.**  Signups are electronic.
